International School of LusakaThe International School of Lusaka, established in 1963, is a non-profit,
private co-educational day school. The school was established to provide an
international education to students from the international and local communities
of Zambia. It is owned by the International School of Lusaka Association whose
members are the parents of students enrolled in the school, and the professional
staff. The Association elects a nine-member Board of Governors and the Board may
appoint two additional members. The International School of Lusaka is authorized
by the Zambian Ministry of Education. In the Primary School at The International School of Lusaka there is an
international curriculum for nursery through year 6. The Secondary School, Forms
1-6, leads to the IGCSE in Form 5, and the International Baccalaureate Diploma
Programme in Form 6. In addition the school offers PSAT, SAT, ACH and TOEFL
testing. There are full-time English as a Second Language and Learning Support
programs offered at all levels. The nature of the school permits its students to
follow the curriculum from Nursery through Form 6 while at the same time
enabling them to take advantage of the diversity of the cultures in the host
country and in the international communities present in Zambia. The The International School of Lusaka's experienced faculty is a mixture of
Zambian, expatriate locally hired, and overseas recruited staff representing a
total of 14 different nationalities. The student body at The International School of Lusakais 23% Zambian, 23% Indian
and 12% British with 46 nationalities comprising the remaining 42%. ISL offers
sports, art, music, computer and modern language classes. ISL has a 33-acre
campus located in the Longacres area of Lusaka, approximately five minutes from
the city center. There are ten main buildings, which include 63 classrooms, six
science labs, two libraries, three computer rooms, and staff rooms. The new Fine
Arts Building houses the Performing Arts and Creative Arts Departments. Sports
facilities include a 400-metre track, all-purpose courts, playing fields, a
wading pool, a 25-meter swimming pool, and a multi-purpose center. Admission to the International School of Lusaka is open to students of any race,
nationality, or creed. An admission/placement test is required for all students
seeking admission. The tests are mainly in the areas of reading, English
language and mathematics. Each child is given an admission test prior to grade
