It was founded by the American Board and now is governed by the Health and Education Foundation (SEV), a Turkish non-profit trust. Historically, the school was a secondary institution with entrance at grade six. However, due to changes in Turkish educational law, an elementary section including kindergarten was opened in 1997. ÜAA is a co-educational high school offering a highly competitive bilingual and bicultural environment to 750 students over five grade levels. All students are required to take a one-year intensive English prep program before moving into grades nine through twelve. ÜAA graduates are annually accepted to the top-tier universities within Turkey as well as internationally. The school hosts the largest Model United Nations (MUN) event in the region, the Turkish International Model United Nations Conference (TIMUN). In addition to MUN, ÜAA has an International Schools Theatre Association program, a National English Honor Society chapter, and a National Honor Society chapter. ÜAA is fully accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and is in the five year report of the CIS accreditation process. The high school division's program is academic in nature with English as the primary language of instruction. Math and science are emphasized throughout the curriculum. Turkish language and literature as well as all Turkish cultural subjects are taught in Turkish. Üsküdar SEV Elementary School is known for its stringent academic program and the importance placed on learning English. The school has over 1, 000 students. Students gain entrance into SEV through a notarized lottery before the kindergarten year, and the school’s popularity is shown with the high number of candidates seeking entrance. Any empty slots from grades one to three six are filled by a notarized lottery and a competitive exam for grades 4-6. Students are not admitted to years seven and eight unless they come from one of the SEV sister schools. Students and parents are primarily attracted to Üsküdar SEV for its rigorous academics, exemplary English program, opportunities for international activities, qualified staff, number of foreign teachers and outstanding success rate with regard to the national high school entrance exam. Üsküdar SEV is fully accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and is in the five year report of the CIS accreditation process. |
