We provide an education in English for children of over 47 nationalities. ISBerne is authorized to offer all three International Baccalaureate (IB) Programmes: the Primary Years Programme (ages 3 –11) in the ELC and the Elementary School and the Middle Years Programme (ages 11 –16) and the Diploma Programme (ages 16 –19) in the Secondary School. The IB programmes, taught in almost 2600 schools worldwide, ensure a smooth and easy transfer for students to and from schools anywhere in the world. The IB Diploma is recognized around the world as a premier University entrance qualification. The curriculum follows a philosophy of education based on the principles of educating the whole person; of promoting international understanding; of education through a broad, balanced curriculum; and of respect for and tolerance of cultural diversity. The elementary and middle school programme includes English, French and German, music, visual arts, theatre arts, the sciences, humanities, mathematics, and PE. The grade 5 students complete their elementary education with an Exhibition. The middle school students complete their educational programme through a Personal Project in grade 10. The IB Diploma programme in grades 11 and 12 is a comprehensive and rigorous two-year curriculum to prepare students for university entrance. Students choose six subjects to study, write an extended essay, follow a Theory of Knowledge Course, and complete a Community, Service and Action Programme. The school has an EAL programme for non-English speakers and a Special Educational Needs (SEN) Programme and College Guidance Service. The varied programme offers ice skating and skiing/snowboarding in winter, Model United Nations, field trips at all grades and an enrichment and after-school sports programme. Facilities include a gymnasium, computer labs, science labs, art rooms, a Drama Studio, and music rooms. Extensive use of local facilities for athletics, theatre, and music productions enable the school to complement its programme. The school is located in the suburb of G?ligen, 15 minutes from the centre of Berne. |
