Welcome to Toorak College

Toorak College is an independent day and boarding school for girls Year 7 to 12 and co-educational Pre School to Year 6. Toorak College is committed to the education of the whole person. We seek to empower and inspire students through education emphasising the intellectual personal emotional and social development of every child. Our learning programs are designed to challenge and engage our students to be relevant academically and developmentally and to enable students to be truly capable young people.

Early Learning and Primary Years

Toorak College Junior School WArdle House offers continous learning pathways for boys and girls from 3 year old Kindergarten to Year 6. Throughout Wardle House we are committed to delivering the Primary Years Program (PYP). The PYP is an internationally recognised program accredited by the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IB). The PYP is offered to all students from the Early Learning Centre (3 & 4 year old Kinder) with the Reggio Emilia Philospohy underpinning and complementing the PYP through to the primary classes from Prep to Year 6. Through the Program we aim to develop the whole child within the framework and traditions that have been the hallmark of Toorak College. The PYP challenges students to ask important questions conduct in-depth research analyse findings report in a variety of ways and reflect on their responsibility as part of a global community. Your child will be supported and challenged to achieve his or her personal best in an open nuturing environment which values a sense of community.

Years 7 & 8

Transition is the key issue for students commencing secondary schooling. Year 7 is a time of developing identities finding new challenges and making new friendships. During this transition Toorak College staff support students to feel a connectedness to the school. At Toorak College students in Years 7 and 8 enjoy a common curriculum building on the skills developed in Junior School. The growing sense of self and the group is also important and students generally work together in common classes. Teacher teams and tutors ensure that the personal growth and wellbeing of the student is not lost in the academic curriculum. Toorak College recognises that students enter Senior School with a wide range of technological competencies. The notebook computer program empowers students to use technology where appropriate inspires confidence and enables them to own their products and outcomes.

Years 9 & 10 & VCE

Our curriculum philosophy at Years 9 and 10 is one of guided choice with increasing room for challenge. At Toorak College we place a significant emphasis on consolidating skills and acquiring knowledge that will ready the students for future learning. All Year 9 students study a core program of English mathematics science personal and Physical Education civics and Citizenship financial Literacy australian History geography and at least one LOTE (German or Japanese) for a semester. Students specialise through the VCE at Toorak College focussed and committed to their final years of secondary school. Toorak College welcomes many new students including boarders entering the School at this level. The school features Bardon House atechnologically advanced dedicated learning centre for VCE students which offers a fully-networked multimedia lecture theatre student lounge study rooms and tutorial rooms. Bardon House is designed to facilitate an adult-style learning environment which improves results and supports transitions towards tertiary education. Toorak College students achieve outstanding VCE results and the school consistently ranks among the top schools in Victoria.

Toorak College's expansive grounds cover 11. 5 hectares with outstanding facilities beautiful gardens and breathtaking views of Port Philip Bay. Our School buildings include: • State-of-the-art Music Centre with 6 rehearsal spaces individual lesson rooms and spaces for performances ensembles composing and recording using the latest technology. • The new Senior School Library (Norman Carson Library) Has 3 portable interactive whiteboards amultimedia room with desktop mac computers. The Boarding House at Toorak College is your new home away from home. Modern secure and well-equipped with everything you need.
