Our School

St Michael's Collegiate is a dynamic Anglican day and boarding school for girls from Early Learning to Year 12. We have two Early Learning Centres (girls and boys) junior middle and Senior Schools and have a combined enrolment exceeding 900. We welcome enrolments from Australian and International students and accept boarders from Year 5.

About Us

Established in 1892 collegiate is a school rich in history and heritage. For 120 years young women have been part of a shared community unique for its blend of academic excellence anurturing environment and the encouragement of each girl’s individual development. Collegiate provides a contemporary education which allows each girl to find her niche and builds students into skilled confident individuals who are set for life. Our challenging and stimulating curriculum incorporates a range of academic artistic sporting and outdoor educational experiences designed to encourage self-belief courage leadership and resilience.

The School Campuses

Collegiate operates Early Learning Centres for girls and boys on two sites. At Anglesea Village the innovative learning centre caters for children from 3 years of age. The Early Learning Centre at Bishop Davies Court in Kingston provides child care and structured learning for children from 3 months to 5 years. This centre offers Australia’s first intergenerational care program providing combined activities for residents of the aged care facility and children from the Centre. Anglesea Village our Junior School in South Hobart is set in magnificent grounds with spectacular views over Mount Wellington. It provides a stimulating environment in which to nurture children’s learning from Kindergarten to Year 4. Literacy numeracy science and SOSE are the basis of the core curriculum with specialist lessons offered in Japanese faith and Life music art physical Education and Library. Founders’ Hall in Molle Street is our state-of-the-art Middle School for girls in Years 5 to 8. Middle School at Collegiate is based on a philosophy of teaching and learning that is responsive and appropriate to the developmental needs of young adolescents; providing learning opportunities that are rigorous rich and relevant. The Middle School has been designed with flexible learning spaces including central open areas larger group areas small quiet spaces and plenty of glass to connect the spaces. The Senior School is Collegiate’s largest campus. It is located on Macquarie Street and is only a short walk to Hobart’s city centre. Girls from Years 9 to 12 enjoy the tranquillity of award-winning gardens stately buildings dating back to Collegiate’s establishment in 1892 and excellent academic facilities. The campus also boasts a unique state-of-the-art Student Centre library performing Arts Complex an indoor heated swimming pool and gymnasium. Ham Common collegiate’s playing fields are located a short distance from the School. Ham Common accommodates tennis netball Hockey cricket softball athletics and cross-country only some of the numerous sporting activities offered by Collegiate. Rowing and other aquatic sports are enjoyed from the Derwent Mercantile Collegiate Rowing Club located five minutes from the Senior Campus on the banks of the Derwent River.

Boarding at Collegiate

Collegiate offers boarding for students in Years 5 to 12. The Boarding House is located amidst lush gardens in the heart of the senior school and provides an excellent opportunity for students to access facilities such as the indoor heated swimming pool gymnasium library and performing arts centre. We understand the importance of knowing each student as an individual and offer a nurturing environment where respect towards others and a happy community atmosphere prevails. We value all and apply a sensible and monitored approach to the care of students.

Enrolment and Enquiries

Choosing a school for your child is one of the most important decisions you will make in life. Entry levels at Collegiate are in Kindergarten Year 5 Year 7 Year 9 and Year 11. Entry into the remaining year levels are offered depending on availability. Scholarships are available for entry into these year levels and are offered annually.
